Your Route to Learning the Guitar

There are many ways that an aspiring guitarist can learn to play the guitar. First of all, don't take it for granted that a few tips from an online video clip and learning a few chords will have you playing like BB King in a matter of hours. Mastering the Guitar takes many years of practice, with a lot of hard work to acquire the knowledge to make you more proficient.

With that said, if you are serious in your ambition to play the guitar then there are various platforms for you to consider that will have you playing to an acceptable standard in a matter of months. You WILL need to have the drive and determination combined with the time but you will do it and have alot of fun along the way. So, let's take a look at two of the most popular options;

Local Guitar Tutors

A quick search through your local paper or an online search engine should provide you with listings of Guitar tutors in your area. I started myself off with a cheap Spanish guitar and then acquired a few lessons from a local tutor. At first, it was very slow going and I found it very tough but with some perseverance I started to adapt to the techniques and slowly improved. However, although it was the start I needed, it was very expensive to me, a 15 year old, paying almost $30 per each lesson. Moreover, I had to schedule my time around my tutor's commitments. So, I had a one hour lesson per week and the rest of my time was spent going over what I had already been taught and had to wait to the following week before I could move forward. In the end, having got myself to an acceptable standard I decided to move and spent the rest my time self learning via tutorial books.

Online Guitar Lessons

At first glance this may seem as the perfect option for a beginner to start learning. But what you really need to consider is whether an online guitar tutor would have the resources for a beginner to acquire the knowledge required to learn the guitar proficiently. There are a plethora of sites that will take your money in a heartbeat but offer nothing but a bunch of video clips that you could find for no cost with a quick search. Be very careful when considering this option. Although the sales pitch will guarantee you will be able play pinball wizard in a week, not all that glitters is gold. However, there are some excellent online sites that will be able to teach you to aspire to your dream of playing a guitar and a very few will do be able to do it for almost less than half of a one hour lesson from an offline tutor.

Conclusion

If you are serious of learning to play the guitar then there are two very viable ways of achieving this. My recommendation would be to start off by researching a recommended offline tutor this way you will be taught the absolute fundamentals which will hold you in good stand as your learning progresses. But bear in mind that this initial start could be costly. However, as I stated, I started off playing the guitar with lessons from an offline tutor as the online option was not open to me at that time. So, when considering your options, make sure you assess what will suit your needs as well as well as your pocket.
