Why Use Aromatherapy?

A therapy that not only works very well but also usually smells really good, aromatherapy uses plant oils (usually essential oils) for the purpose of psychological and physical healing or remedy.

The main ingredient for aromatherapy is the oil from the plant, that is the essential or essence of the plant. There are close to 100 essential oils. This is coupled with other ingredients that make the scent complete. Such things include, herbs, sea salts, muds and clays. All ingredients in true aromatherapy are natural. Synthetics or commercial fragrances are discouraged.

The primary way of using aromatherapy is very simple. The oils are inhaled into the body through the oil being burned and placed in a position where the body inhales them deeply. Oils tend to have an impact on both the body and spirit. Depending on the oil you use you will get a different impact. Additionally you can apply some of the oils directly to the skin. (Be careful, essential oils are powerful, you don't want to apply unless they are diluted first).

Aromatherapy is used as an alternative medicine by many medical professionals. It is used as an addition to many treatments as well. Additionally the psychological impacts of this alternative therapy are not only well documented but encouraged for patients who suffer from stress or trauma type ailments.

It is not considered a medical field by itself but it is used by those in the medical field and the psychological fields as well. If you know which oils to use for which issues or ailments that you are experiencing you might very well feel some type of relief from what ails you.

Some of the most well known oils include eucalyptus, jasmine, rose, vanilla, cinnamon, wintergreen, lavender and cinnamon. But there are many many others. There are also books dedicated to understanding with aroma is best with each ailment.
