Vote None of the Above

I am sure some of you remember Brewster’s Millions, the popular 80’s movie starring the late Richard Prior. During this movie Monty Brewster needs to spend $30 million in 30 days to try and get his real inheritance of $300 million. In an effort for this to happen he joins in on the mayoral race and his slogan is, “Vote None of the Above”. I think those are words of wisdom that very much apply to politicians in this century.

Before I try to change people’s ways of thinking as to how they should view politicians and make future votes I feel the need to put some things in perspective. Jesus died 2006 ears ago. If someone lived that many years and earned one BILLION dollars a year for each of those years that person would still not have enough money to pay off the debt our government has accumulated since the year of 1900. That person would have earned, over the course of 2006 years, $2,006,000,000,000 (Yes, that is 2 trillion dollars) Our nation’s debt over the last 100 years is over $8 TRILLION.

If this is not a huge indicator of what the politicians are doing to our country then I will clearly never convince you that they are bad for the country and should be voted out. There was virtually no national debt at the turn of the 20th century. It was not until Franklin Delano Roosevelt was President that the debt really started to pile up. No President since FDR did anything to slow down the rise of the national debt and yet people continue to re-elect the same senators and congressmen over and over. President’s are elected to multiple terms in the White House, politicians are not forced to be accountable for their decisions or actions. These are the “leaders” of our country. Are you kidding me?

It is time to put this nonsense to a stop. It is time to stop voting the way we always have because all we will continue to get is what we have gotten. It is time to see through the politicians “promises” for what they really mean and find someone who cares about the country more than his own image and being re-elected four or six years down the road. For example, during the last Presidential campaign Bush and Kerry were arguing over the budget deficit and Kerry proudly stood in front of the audience at these debates and stated, “I will cut the budget deficit in half!” People began to cheer. How did the thought of spending $250 billion more than the government takes in instead of $500 billion become exciting news worthy of cheering over? When you are dealing with a trillion dollar budget why is there any deficit? How can you not operate a government on budgets in the trillions of dollars?

It is time to look past the names of the parties and find a candidate with some backbone and some good intentions. If we do not, as voters, bring in a new kind of politician soon our elderly people will be without medical care, food, heat, etc… because there will soon be no funding for Social Security (good old FDR) and Medicaid. Without those services the elderly people will have no money for the essentials. Not only will our elderly people suffer but so will our children because they will have to pay off the debt being accumulated now but not be subject to the same kind of lifestyle we have lived.

Some people that I discuss these issues with think I am a bit mentally challenged and that is OK. These are the same people I told 2 years ago that GM was in bad shape and would be going downhill quickly. $300+ Billion in debt and the announcement of 30,000 layoffs and those people are starting to see I may have some idea what I am talking about. Numbers do not lie and the fact that in 100 years we have built over $8 trillion in debt is all the proof I need. If at the next election you can’t decide what to do, write my name on the ballot. I know I could do better.
