How to Overcome Procrastination - Three Keys to Motivating Yourself to Get Things Done Quickly
Print This Article Ezine Publisher Send To Friends Add To Favorites Post A Comment Suggest Topic Report Author

Are you beating yourself up for procrastinating? Stop it! It's not going to make things any better. However, you may want to start tackling the issue head-on. Read on for a few easy ways to do that.

Maybe you find yourself constantly putting things off instead of attending to them promptly. When you procrastinate, you're likely to stretch the time it takes to get stuff done. In the time that you dawdle thinking that you'll get to it eventually, you'll find that when you do, many other duties that demand your attention have accumulated on your plate.

How can you break the vicious cycle that prevents you from achieving more? There are a number of effective measures that show you how to overcome procrastination. You've got to be serious in following these proven techniques if you want to stop procrastinating.

1. Make a 'To Do' List

When you know you're likely to procrastinate and put things off until the last minute, start by making a list of all the outstanding things that you've got to get done. This is your 'To Do' list. Then, rewrite the list with the activities sorted by priority. Don't forget to check whether you actually have to do every thing on the list. You may be able to drop some if they are not really necessary.

Then work your way down your list, ticking the items off as you get through each one. This is an excellent way to learn how to overcome procrastination. If you've got to juggle doing your laundry with answering an important email or paying bills, start with the task that is the most urgent. Also take care of small but important tasks for a quick sense of accomplishment. You'll achieve a sense of satisfaction as you cross out each of your activity on the 'To Do' list, working your way right to the end.

2. Break Down Each Task

It's a lot easier to accomplish something if it's broken down into manageable pieces. The same goes for all the tasks on your 'To Do' list. Getting down to working on the first activity may put you off even before you've started. Instead of doing everything in one go, try breaking each task into separate smaller tasks. Either that, or break it into smaller chunks of time. For example you could do your work in blocks of half an hour each. You'll notice that once you've got through the first half hour, getting through the rest comes much more easily.

3. Reward Yourself

Arrange a treat for yourself as a reward for having done the things you set out to do. Make sure it's something that you really enjoy and look forward to. It will serve as an incentive for you to work hard to complete your tasks.

For example, if you'd like to catch a movie that has just come out, you could make that your reward for working as you learn how to overcome procrastination. You can't treat yourself to the movie until you've crossed out everything on your 'To Do' list. This way, you'll motivate yourself to attend to your work immediately.

However, there are also some more sophisticated ways to overcome procrastination and get things done fast.

Why not try something else -- take control of your time, become motivated, and start tackling your to-do-list because you want to? All this is possible with ultimate procrastination course at IMTimeMastery.com that will take your procrastinating self and turbo-charge your productivity.

And if you're too stressed to work on your to do list, why not start with Elisabeth Kuhn's stress tips report.
