Making decisions can be hard. Some decisions are even harder than others. And yet, we are faced with the need to make tough decisions all the time. They can range from serious financial decisions to relationship issues all the way to decisions relating to education, travel, health, and more. Read on for five steps to making better decisions -- and with less stress.
It is vital that you know how to make those decisions. Being indecisive is not only not an appealing character trait, but it also can cause extra stress to yourself as well as those around you as you know you need to decide but you just cannot bring yourself to do it.
Learning how to make quick, well thought-out decisions when you need to really pays off. It will even make you come across like a strong person and a leader. In fact, all successful people have one thing in common - they are great decision makers. You too can be one of them by practicing the following 5-step process:
1) Consider All Possible Outcomes
Write down all the possible outcomes of your decision. Often there are more than two outcomes to any decision. Write down all possible outcomes in order to make a more informed decision.
2) What is the Worst Case Scenario?
Sometimes decisions are much easier to make when we don't fear the outcome. Even if you make the wrong decision, often the worst case scenario is not as bad as you think. To squash your fears, think about what the worst thing could possibly be and you might be surprised how much more at ease you will feel about having made this tough decision.
3) Can Anyone Else Help?
Sometimes it can pay to have someone else that is involved help you to make the decision. This can include getting more information from them or perhaps just allowing them to show you another side of the story.
4) Do You Know Enough?
Decisions are always easier to make when you have as much knowledge as possible. That means researching everything that will make your decision a more informed choice rather than just a wild guess and a hope that you have chosen the right path. They say that complex decisions are best made by letting the subconscious get involved while also having as much information as possible. More straightforward decisions, in the meantime, can often be made by conscious thought alone.
5) Ask Yourself Questions
Write a questionnaire for every possible facet of the decision. Pretend that you are writing the questions for someone else. This can make it easier to do. Then go through and answer every single question as honestly as possible. Doing this task properly may well reveal the answer to you right in front of your eyes.
And while some decisions are not reversible, most of them can be changed. If you decide on a path from which you can't turn back, you may want to take some extra time. In most cases, though, just pick whichever option feels better, and go for it.
Should your choice turn out to be the wrong one, you'll know very quickly, and then you can always change your mind and try option number two.

Here's my favorite resource -- and it might well be the only one you'll ever need because it's so powerful (AND has a decision making module built right in): The ultimate multi-media time management course -- with workbook -- for internet marketers and other stressed out professionals: Time Management Course. It has made a huge difference in my own life, and has in fact tripled my productivity, and I'm very excited to be able to share it with you. I'd also like to offer you my, Elisabeth Kuhn's, FREE stress-busting strategies report which will help with making good decisions as well.
