Affiliate marketing isn't rocket science, but the fact is that it has gotten more competitive -- a lot more competitive -- over the last couple of years. While the big boys and a few initiates used to have the field all to themselves, now it seems everybody and their cousin is getting into the game, and so it takes more work to make a dent.

Just as an example. It used to be that you could get good results with just a couple of articles on a subject. People would click on the links in your resource boxes and you'd make sales.

Now, there are so many articles out there -- on the same topic -- that it takes literally dozens and even hundreds of articles to get any kind of response. That wasn't what most of us signed up for.

So what to do? Write our fingers to nubs? Work ourselves to exhaustion? Pay-per-click ourselves into bankruptcy? Not a chance.

What we need to do is something that's been around for a while, but hasn't often been mentioned in the affiliate marketing world: work smarter, not harder.

And what does working smarter mean? For starters, it means to let go of the massive onslaught of information we're trying to ingest, all at the same time. Sometimes, lack of affiliate success comes not just from not-so effective action, but from complete lack of action. After all, who knows where to even get started anymore.

So what to do? Find a proven mentor such as Jimmy D. Brown and read his outstanding material on affiliate marketing how-to. Or, better yet, get him to teach you the stuff that works best, right now, in bite-size and immediately implementable doses. And then, most importantly, go out and do it!
