Effects of ADHD Drugs on Children - Some Facts and Figures
Print This Article Ezine Publisher Send To Friends Add To Favorites Post A Comment Suggest Topic Report Author

About 10% of all American children have been prescribed some sort of psychostimulant or psychotropic drugs for some type of attention disorder such as ADHD, ODD or CD. It has now reached epidemic proportions yet the effects of ADHD drugs on children has been minimized by the drug companies who make these drugs. Are you surprised? The fact that ADHD homeopathic cures have no side effects and that relatively few people know about this should not surprise us either, given the powerful influence Big Pharm has at its disposal.

All you have to do to get an idea of what is going on is to Google the FDA site where you will see under ADHD meds, a whole list of side effects and warnings. One of the most alarming effects of ADHD drugs on children involves cardiac arrest and the lowering of blood pressure. If there is even a hint of a heart problem, the child has to have an ECG and then be monitored for the whole time he is receiving treatment. A report done in the Netherlands on 250,000 patients published its findings and stated that there were 'reasonably sure' that the threefold increase in deaths from heart attacks was linked to the taking of psychostimulant drugs such as amphetamines. This study mostly concerned adults but when we think that we are giving the same drugs to children, then it is time to call a halt.

We now know from a University of Michigan report that there is a definite link between ADHD and drug use. The children with ADHD are just at higher risk all through their lifetime. There is a confidential FDA report which states that if amphetamines are taken for long period, then this may lead to drug dependency. Yet doctors are happily prescribing these amphetamines and minimizing the effects of ADHD drugs on children saying that they are limited and rare. As a parent, quite frankly, I am not prepared to take that risk.

Antidepressants are not allowed to be prescribed for children in the UK and this is not surprising given that the link between the use of antidepressants and suicidal thoughts was 'convincing'. This is the word used by the FDA!

These then are just some of the effects of ADHD drugs on children and I think it is high time that more and more parents should be aware of the alternative natural cures for ADHD which will pose absolutely no risk for their children. Why not find out exactly what a homeopathic remedy is and how it can control ADHD symptoms without actually turning your child into a zombie.
