Is ADHD a legitimate disorder? Many parents question this, especially when they read over the list of symptoms which in some ways, seem like normal behaviors for active kids. In this article, you'll learn information that will help you come to an answer and determine whether your child needs help.
First, let's look at some of the symptoms of ADHD:
- Hyperactivity
- Fidgeting
- Mood swings
- Outbursts
- Tantrums
- Trouble concentrating
- Difficulty completing tasks
When you read through this list of symptoms, you have to ask yourself, "Is ADHD real?" I mean, after all, many of the symptoms (although not all), seem to be normal behaviors in childhood. The fact of the matter is upon reflection, all of us can probably think of times when we were moody, had a tantrum in response to something that happened that we didn't like, had difficulty concentrating, etc. Although you may have experienced these symptoms periodically, the distinction here is that kids who have ADHD suffer from these symptoms most of the time.
This makes it difficult for them to learn new things, do well in school and make lasting friendships. Think about it. In order to learn something new, you need to be able to relax yourself and focus, so you can take the new information in. In order to make friends with others, you can't be throwing tantrums or be moody all the time or lash out at others. Kids with ADHD cannot regulate their behavior; they are controlled by it.
So if you ask me, "Is ADHD a legitimate disorder," I'd have to answer yes. Of course, this doesn't mean that this disorder is not overdiagnosed or that I believe that kids with these symptoms should automatically be put on dangerous prescription drugs. In fact, let's take a moment to talk about prescription ADHD medications.
What most parents don't realize about ADHD drugs is that they do nothing to heal the disorder. All they do is mask the symptoms, but doing so takes a heavy toll because prescription drugs have side effects. Some of these side effects include restlessness, agitation, sleeplessness, loss of appetite, heart problems and even sudden death. Yup, that's right ... sudden death.

Obviously, it is healthier for children if parents take the steps to help children overcome this disorder, rather than just mask the symptoms with drugs. The best way to do this is with homeopathic remedies. These remedies are all natural and have no side effects or drug interaction concerns. Most importantly, they work to restore proper functioning to the brain by giving it the nutrients it is lacking.
So, is ADHD real? Yes. Does it have to be treated with drugs? Absolutely not. Since researchers have found that kids with ADHD are deficient in essential nutrients, it makes sense to treat the disorder with a good quality homeopathic remedy and a sound diet that is comprised of fresh, whole foods.
When looking for a good remedy, make sure it is FDA-approved and contains clinically proven ingredients like Verta Alb and Hyoscyamus. These gentle, but highly effective herbs are made into a tonic that soothes the brain so the child can concentrate, stay on task, behave appropriately and sit still. Although the formulation calms the nervous system, it does not alter the child's personality or make him into a zombie the way that drugs do. Best of all, it does all this by giving the brain the nutrition it needs to function properly.
Is ADHD a legitimate disorder? Yes. Can it be treated without putting our children at risk? Absolutely.
